1. Acceptance of Terms
By visiting our website, or downloading, installing, or running Halbert, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not access our website or use the Halbert software.
2. Software Licensing & Distribution
2.1 Open-Source Core Edition
The core Halbert software engine, CLI, and open-source packages are licensed under the GNU General Public License Version 3.0 (or later) (GPL-3.0-or-later). Nothing in these website Terms overrides, restricts, or supersedes your freedoms under the GPL-3.0 for covered components.
2.2 Halbert for Mac (Direct) & App Store Companion
Halbert for Mac is not yet on sale. When it ships it will be delivered via our Merchant of Record (LemonSqueezy): a one-time perpetual license ($29) granting execution rights on an unlimited number of personal machines and nodes owned or administered by the licensee — there is no device cap — with 12 months of signed official updates. Lapsed licenses remain fully functional forever; an optional $19/year renewal extends updates, and a full refund is available within 14 days. The free App Store companion suite, Halbert Node, has not been submitted to any App Store; when it is, it will be distributed under Apple Media Services Terms and our GPLv3 Section 7 Additional Permission.
3. Autonomous Operational Risk & Administrative Waiver
Critical Administrative Warning
Halbert modifies live operating system configurations, system logs, hardware sensors, systemd service units, and launchd daemons. You acknowledge and agree that:
- You are an authorized administrator of any system where Halbert executes.
- You are solely responsible for reviewing and verifying all proposed diffs and service actions before granting approval.
- You are solely responsible for maintaining verified offline backups of mission-critical filesystems.
- The maintainers and contributors have no control over the commands you approve or your host operating environment.
4. Disclaimer of Warranties
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW: THE WEBSITE, ANY PRE-RELEASE BUILDS, AND HALBERT SOFTWARE ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
5. Limitation of Liability
IN NO EVENT SHALL THE MAINTAINERS, CONTRIBUTORS, COPYRIGHT HOLDERS, OR DISTRIBUTORS OF HALBERT BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THE WEBSITE OR SOFTWARE, DATA LOSS, CORRUPTION OF BOOT VOLUMES, OR SERVICE OUTAGES, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

Linux® is the registered trademark of Linus Torvalds. macOS®, Apple®, and Apple Silicon® are trademarks of Apple Inc. Ubuntu® is a trademark of Canonical Ltd. Docker® is a trademark of Docker, Inc. All other product names, logos, and brands are property of their respective owners. Halbert is an independent open-source project and is not affiliated with or endorsed by these trademark holders.
